Outreach to the Poor – Homelessness

One of the groups set up as part of the Embracing Change process is Outreach to the Poor (OTTP). The group aims to consider our Christian response to poverty at home and abroad. Among the issues the OTTP group has tackled is homelessness which is a problem in North Ayrshire as it is across the rest of Scotland. Churches Homeless Action North Ayrshire (CHANA) is an ecumenical group set up to help people who are homeless in North Ayrshire. It has already helped with appeals for winter clothing and toiletries. It also had a fantastic response to our appeal for toys and gifts at Christmas from many of the churches in North Ayrshire. There is a constant need for goods. Around 750 people become homeless in North Ayrshire every year. Between thirty and forty are rehoused each month. Many of them have no household goods to take to their new home. There is a box for goods in the porch. Members of the group regularly collect the donated items and deliver them to the homeless team. For further information on CHANA, please contact the Parish Office.

Mission Statement

The Church of Saint Peter in Chains is a Catholic Church in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland. Saint Peter in Chains belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galloway. It is a relatively young Church having been opened in 1938. Most Churches in the surrounding towns are well over a hundred years old. The Parish hopes to re-energise the local Church through authentic witness that can inspire people to rediscover the message of Catholicism.

We hope to play an active part in the New Evangelisation by striving to be “missionary disciples”. This website exists for two reasons. Firstly, it informs the community of Church services and other events and secondly, it records the history of the parish. These aims form our mission statement.
